  • On 4 March 2016, Freedom fighter and West Bengal’s senior most Left leader, Ashok Ghosh, who was state secretary of the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) since 1951, died. He was 94.
  • Influenced by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose leadership and ideals, Ghosh joined Forward Bloc formally in 1941.
  • He was elected as the state secretary of the Forward Bloc on 22 June 1951 and held the same for over a record sixty years.
  • For holding Top position of any political party for such a long duration his name was included in the Limca Book of Records.
  • After Independence, Ashok Ghosh played a vital role in the formation of the first and second United Front government consisting of Bangla Congress, Forward Bloc, LSS (Lok Sabha Sangh), CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist), CPI (Communist Party of India), RSP. (Revolutionary Socialist Party).
  • In seven decades of his political career, he did not hold any political positions and He was a bachelor in his personal life and dedicated his whole life for the cause of society.
