  • On 25 August 2016 World Risk Report 2016 was released by the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and Bundnis Entwicklung Hilft in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart in Germany.
  • The World Risk Index is part of the World Risk Report 2016 assessed the risk of disaster in 171 countries through the combined analysis of natural hazards and societal vulnerabilities.
  • The island state of Vanuatu has been ranked No.1, displayed the greatest risk in 2016.
  • Tonga with the index value of 29.33 and the Philippines with the index value of 26.70 have been rankes 2nd and 3rd.
  • The list is followed by Guatemala and Bangladesh at fourth and fifth place respectively.
  • Saudi Arabia (ranked 169th), Malta (ranked 170th) and Qatar (ranked 171st) have the lowest disaster risk.
  • India has been ranked 77th on the World risk index-2016.
  • The World Risk Report 2015 had positioned India at 78th position and 2014 report had placed India on 73rd rank.
  • Among the neighboring countries Pakistan has been ranked at 72nd position while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are at 63rd and 5th position, respectively.
  • China and Nepal are in a better position than India and have been ranked at 85th and 108th position respectively.
