- According to the press release by ministry of external affairs Bengaluru, Karnataka will host the 2017 Bharatiya Pravasi Divas (PBD) scheduled to take place on January 7, 8 and 9 of 2017.
- The theme of 2017 PBD is “Redefined Engagement with Indian Diaspora”.
- It may be recalled that 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was held during 7–9 January 2015 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
- January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa, led India’s freedom struggle and changed the lives of Indians forever.
- PBD conventions are being held every year since 2003.
