- On March 15, 2017.Nama Canteen was announced for the city of Bangalore during the presentation of the budget of State Karnataka in fiscal year 2017-18.
- On this occasion Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah said that this canteen will be opened on the lines of Tamil Nadu Amma Canteen.
- Under this canteen, the common man will have breakfast, lunch and dinner at affordable prices under subsidy.
- In the canteen, breakfast will be provided for 5 rupees and food for 10 rupees will be provided.
- Nama Canteen will be established in 198 wards of Bangalore city.
- For this, the state government has made a provision of Rs 100 crore in the budget.
- This initiative was proposed almost 2 years ago.
- This proposal was first proposed by Karnataka Planning Commission Deputy Chairman C.M. Ibrahim.
