  • International Women’s day was celebrated on 8th March across the world.
  • The theme for 2017 is : “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”.
  • The idea of this theme is to consider how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal number 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; and number 4: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.
  • A Campaign themed ‘BeBoldForChange’ has also been launched on this occasion.
  • The President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee greeted women on International Women’s Day. He also mentioned that Prime Minister’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign has been launched in response to the falling Child Sex Ratio in many parts of the country. It is designed to also motivate girl children in every part of our country to enroll in primary education. The programme entails selective intervention – 100 districts across India have been targeted in 2015 and expanded to 61 additional districts in 2016.
