  • On 24-25 May, 2018 the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte was on an official visit to India.
  • His visit is taking place within a year of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Netherlands in June 2017.
  • This is the second visit of Prime Minister Rutte to India since June 2015, but the first after being re-elected as Prime Minister in 2017.
  • The high level delegation that accompanied him included the Deputy Prime Minister along with and Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management and Medical Care.
  • In addition, about 231 business representatives representing 130 companies had come with them.
  • Companies involved in trade missions represent agriculture, horticulture, logistics, education, smart cities, water, health and life sciences, IT and ocean areas.
  • On May 24th, 2018, Mark Rutte had done delegation level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Following the talks, the two countries made the detailed announcement of MOU / agreements and initiatives in different areas.
  • Includes G2G (Government to Government), Knowledge Institution, Water, Agro food and Horticulture, High-Tech / IT / Space, Life Sciences and Health, Smart Citizens, Business and Continuous Nutrition.
  • The Netherlands signed the Framework Agreement of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and became the 64th Signatory Country.
  • The Netherlands government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Haryana Government to support the state with diversification of agriculture sector, with a focus on horticulture crops.
  • During this visit, Prime Minister Mark Rutte inaugurated the Indo-Dutch Ganga Forum for furthering the MoU signed between India’s Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Protection Ministry and the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.
  • During this period, the Indo-Dutch CEO form was held in New Delhi.
  • Significantly, there is a bilateral trade between India and the Netherlands of $ 7.621 billion (April 2017 to February, 2018).
  • In the period 2000 to December 2017, the Netherlands is India’s fifth largest investor with cumulative investment of US $ 23 billion.
  • There are 235,000 migrant Indians in the Netherlands, which is the largest overseas Indian community on the mainland of Europe.
