  • On 03 February 2021; unified web portal for monitoring the progress of GOBARDHAN activities across the nation, was launched.
  • This portal has been launched by the ministers of different ministries of the union government including Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
  • Other ministers, who were participated in this joint launching programme are Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Animal Husbandry Minister Giriraj Singh, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister of State for Jal Shakti Rattan Lal Kataria.
  • Gobardhan is an important component of Swachh Bharat Mission Phase-2 for organic solid waste management.
  • Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, at the rural level, earlier there was no way of proper disposal of cattle dung waste.
  • He further said that after the introduction of Gobardhan programme, people will be able to provide proper disposal of dung and achieve the goal of ODF Plus.
  • Animal Husbandry Minister Giriraj Singh said, Gobardhan pilot project will prove to be an important and useful step in cleanliness.
  • He said, through this farmers will be able to get wealth from waste in a true sense.

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, through this important scheme of Gobardhan, we will get ethanol, bio-diesel and compressed bio-fuel in the coming years.

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar expressed confidence that the launch of unified portal of Gobardhan will further strengthen the rural economy.
  • He said that now rural will get its strength through a convergent approach for various Biogas projects models and initiatives.
  • He said, the ODF Plus goal outlined in the Phase 2 of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin ) will depend on the performance of Gobardhan scheme to a great extent.
  • It will not only effectively address the solid waste management challenge but will increase livelihood opportunities, and household earnings of farmers and people living in rural areas.
  • He said, the country has attained the status of Open Defecation Free, ODF and now it is moving towards ODF Plus.
  • He said, Gobardhan programme will prove to be a milestone for a Clean India.

Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Pankaj Kumar said, the Gobardhan scheme aims at supporting villages effectively to manage their cattle dung and other organic waste.

  • He said, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation will work with all the other stakeholders to implement Gobardhan, a unified approach across village.

GOBARDHAN Scheme:-

  • Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation has launched the GOBAR (Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources) – DHAN scheme.
  • The scheme is being implemented as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).
  • The Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) comprises two main components for creating clean villages –

(i) Creating open defecation free (ODF) villages.
(ii) Managing solid and liquid waste in villages.

  • With over 3.5 lakh villages, 374 districts and 16 States/UTsof the country being declared ODF, the stage is set for ODF-plus activities.
  • ODF-plus activities will be done including measures to enhance Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM).

Purpose:-

  • Purpose of the scheme is to positively impact village cleanliness and generate wealth and energy from cattle and organic waste.
  • The scheme also aims at creating new rural livelihood opportunities and enhancing income for farmers and other rural people.
