- On March 3, 2017 Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced “Thirtha Darshan scheme”.
- This Scheme is reserved for domicile of Haryana.
- More than 400 destinations have been listed under the scheme that can be visited by pilgrims.
- Under this scheme senior citizens (above 60) of the State will be able to go on pilgrimage within the country on Government expenses.
Maximum 250 pilgrims (persons) would be selected on the basis of draw of lots every year. - The entire cost of tour of pilgrims (including their spouse) belonging to the Below Poverty Line shall be borne by the Government while only 70% of expense relating to Non -BPL class pilgrims shall be borne by the Government.
- This package shall cover sleeper class train fare and night accommodation on multi-sharing basis but will not cover expense on entertaining activities like boating etc.
