  • At the invitation of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, HH General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces is paying his first State visit to India from 10-12 February, 2016.
  • The visit follows the visit of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi to UAE in August 2015, during which the two countries agreed to elevate the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
  • India and UAE have historically enjoyed close and friendly relations anchored on mutually beneficial commercial exchanges and extensive people to people contacts.
  • The bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to US$ 59 billion in 2014-15, making UAE our third largest trading partner.
  • UAE is among the largest investors in India in terms of foreign direct investments. It contributes significantly to India’s energy security and is the sixth largest supplier of crude oil to India in 2014-15.
  • During his visit he met President Pranab Mukherjee and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
  • General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forceswith the Prime Minister on February 11, 2016, concluded a bilateral meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
  • During the visit, both countries signed 9 agreements and Memorandums of Understandings.
  1. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for technical cooperation in Cyber Space and in the area of Combating Cyber Crime.
  2. MoU on establishing a framework for facilitating the participation of UAE institutional investors in Infrastructure Investments in India.
  3. General Framework Agreement on Renewable Energy Cooperation.
  4. MoU between Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the United Arab Emirates Space Agency on Cooperation in the Exploration and use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes.
  5. MoU was signed between Insurance Regulatory Authority of India (IRDA) and the Insurance Authority of UAE.
  6. MoU on Executive Programme for Cultural Cooperation (EPCC).
  7. Letter of Intent between Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the UAE government’s National Qualification Authority (NQA) for collaboration on mutual recognition of qualifications and skill developments.
  8. MoU between Dubai Economic Council (DEC) and the Export-Import Bank of the India.
  9. India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) bilateral swapping of Indian Rupee with their Dirham. MoU was signed between the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.
