  • On November 1st, 2017, the inter-state council was reorganized under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • It is known that the Prime Minister is the ex-officio chairman of this council.
  • Six Central Ministers and Chief Ministers of all the States have been included as members.
  • The following are the six central ministers included in the Council: Rajnath Singh (Home Minister), Sushma Swaraj (External Affairs Minister), Arun Jaitley (Finance Minister), Nitin Gadkari (Road Transport Minister), Thawar Chand Gehlot (Social Justice and Authorization) and Nirmala Sitharaman (Defense Minister)
  • Chief Minister of all the states and Chief Ministers of the Union Territories of all the Legislative Assembly shall be the members of this Council.
  • Apart from this, 8 Union Ministers have also been appointed permanent invitees.
  • Article 263 of the Constitution provides for the creation of Inter-state Council.
  • In the year 1988, on the recommendation Commission (Sarkaria Commission) constituted under the chairmanship of Justice R.S. Sarkaria the Inter-state Council was formed in the year 1990.
  • The objective is to try to resolve the dispute arising on any issue between two or more states / center administered areas or center and between two or more states / center administered areas.
  • Council provides a solution to the issues related to the interests of the interests and investigate the appropriate solutions.
  • Apart from this, the policy is also recommended for better cooperation and appropriate action.
  • On the same day, the Standing Committee of the Inter-state Council was reconstituted under the chairmanship of Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • It is known that the Home Minister of India is the ex-officio Chairman of this committee.
  • In this reconstituted Standing Committee, four Union Ministers and seven Chief Ministers have been nominated members.
  • This committee includes Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari and Thawar Chand Gehlot.
  • There are chief ministers in this committee- N. Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh), Amarinder Singh (Punjab), Raman Singh (Chhattisgarh), Manik Sarkar (Tripura), Naveen Patnaik (Odisha), Vasundhara Raje (Rajasthan) and Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh).
