6. Vientiane Rescue (Laos) - Bezwada Wilson has been recognised by the board of trustees for ‘asserting the inalienable right to a life of human dignity.’
- Wilson, the founder of Safai Karmachari Andolan, an organisation that is working towards eradicating the practice of manual scavenging from Indian villages, won the award for “asserting the inalienable right to a life of human dignity”.
- T. M Krishna performing ever since he was six. Born in a family of musically influenced people, the carnatic musical vocalist won the award for “social inclusiveness in culture”.
- It should known that the award was given in six different categories till the year 2008 but subsequently category was abolished.
- The Award was established in 1957 and is widely regarded as Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
- It was established in 1957 in the memory of Philippines’ 3rd President Ramon Magsaysay by Ramon Magsaysay foundation.
- The prize will be given at the presentation Ceremony scheduled to be held in Manila on 31 August 2016.
