  • On June 10th, 2018, former chief of National Investigation Agency (NIA) Sharad Kumar was appointed as the new Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
  • His tenure will last for 4 years or 65 years (whichever is earlier).
  • It is notable that the Central Vigilance Commissioner is appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the committee, headed by the Prime Minister, which includes, Home Minister and Leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha or the leader of the biggest Opposition party in that House.
