- On October 5, 2017, ISRO Chairman Kiran Kumar and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal signed a Memorandum of Understanding for setting up a research center for startups, academic world, environmentalists and entrepreneurs in Guwahati, Capital of Assam.
- This research center will assist in possibility of the use of space technology in the North-East and to connect North-East with East Asian countries under the ‘Act East Policy’.
- This research center will be equipped with ‘Global Positioning System’ (GPS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing Technology.
- Remote Sensing Technology will be used for exact information of flood warning system, soil erosion, landslide etc. in Assam.
