  • On June 26, 2017, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra was appointed the president of the India International Centre (IIC) – one of the premier cultural institutions in the country.
  • He was elected as the president at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the institute which was held on June 23rd, 2017.
  • He was appointed after eminent jurist Soli Sorabjee quit the presidential post.
  • India International Centre is a non-government institution widely regarded as a place where statesmen, diplomats, policymakers, intellectuals, scientists, jurists, writers, artists and members of civil society meet to initiate the exchange of new ideas and knowledge in the spirit of international cooperation.
  • Its purpose, stated in its charter, was ‘to promote understanding and amity between the different communities of the world’.
  • On March 19th, 1959, it was registered under the Societies Registration Act (XXI) of 1860.
  • In November 1960, Crown Prince Akihito of Japan laid the cornerstone for the superstructure.
  • The building was completed by 22 January 1962 and inaugurated by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.
