- On 30 January 2016, Uttar Pradesh government signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding with the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd regarding Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY).
- Uttar Pradesh government in order to provide 24-hour power supply in the state takes effective step towards the signing of this historic agreement.
- Under the agreement, Uttar Pradesh would take over Rs 39,900 crore of discom debt, which is 75 per cent of the total loan of Rs 53,200 crore.
