  • On 2nd March, 2017, Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh will inaugurate and chair the proceedings of maiden regional conference of Eastern States at Gangtok, Sikkim.
  • The Theme of the conference is ‘Enhancing steel consumption in India’.
  • This will be first of the four regional conferences being planned across India. While elaborating on the idea, Mr. Singh remarked that India needs to become a leader in innovative use of steel in India.
  • The delegates in the conference would deliberate on measures to increase steel demand, advantages of steel intensive construction & steel in high-rises, rural sector, bridges and other fields. The occasion would provide a unique platform for exchange of user perspective and producers response.
  • The delegates in the conference would include decision makers in projects in central and state Governments, architects, structural designers and consultants, project financers, contractors, fabricators, erectors, Faculties from Metallurgy, Mechanical and Civil Engineering departments, representatives from large infrastructure industry and architect associations.
  • It is to be noted that China is world’s largest Steele crude producing country with 803.83 million metric tons in 2015.
