- On September 26, 2017,a study report was released by the highest industry organization Assocham with title of Manufacturing Excellence and Emergence in India: The State Level analysis.
- According to the report Maharashtra and Gujarat ranked among top (1st and 2nd respectively) state in term of manufacturing emergence in mainstream states across India.
- With a ratio of 1.29, Maharashtra has emerged on top with growth of EM part-II filed by MSMEs at district Industrial Centres in FY15 over FY13.
- Gujarat has also performed decently with fourth and fifth position in terms of change in return on capital and efficiency respectively.
- Assocham Economic Research Bureau (AERB) considered the various parameters such as factories, production value, working capital, pure fixed capital formation, fixed capital, financed goods, capital investment, total investment and other manufacturing sectors in the performance of states.
- The study stated that all states were divided into three major categories according to geographical conditions, viz., north-eastern, Himalayan and mainstream states.
