- On May 24, 2017, Minister of State for Communication Independent Charge Manoj Sinha launched BSNL’s satellite phone service.
- In the first phase, this service will be given to government agencies and later will be open to others gradually.
- On this occasion, the Minister also launched Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Telecom Skills Excellence Award Scheme and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Sanchar Kaushal Vikas Pratisthan Scheme.
- Under the first phase of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Sanchar Kaushal Vikas Pratisthan Scheme, 10 thousand people from 10 States / Union Territories will be trained.
- In the first phase, the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Haryana are included.
- Under this new scheme of the Department of Telecommunications, more than 1000 communication skills development establishments will be set up in the future.
- Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Telecom Skills Excellence Awards will be given to outstanding performers in telecom sector.
- According to the Minister of Communications, the plan of the Department of Telecommunications is to provide broadband connection to 2.5 million Gram Panchayats by December 2018.
