  • On April 8, 2017, a formal launch of Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka bus service was started by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamta Banerjee through Video Conferencing from New Delhi.
  • For the first time the cities of Kolkata and Khulna are connecting directly to the bus route.
  • The distance between Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka is 409 km is.
  • On this route two buses will run from both sides for three days of the week.
  • Apart from this bus service, bus services are also being operated on Kolkata-Dhaka and Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala routes.
  • It is being operated by transport corporations of West Bengal and Tripura state and Bangladesh Transport Corporation.
  • On this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina flagged off the trials of new train service between Kolkata and Khulna by video conferencing from New Delhi.
  • Apart from this, a freight train service was also flagged off between Radhikapur and Birol stations.
  • This train service has been named Maitree Express-II.
  • Maitri Express train was started between India and Bangladesh in the year 2008.
  • With the commencement of these train services, the journey between the two neighboring countries will be encouraged.
  • The Kolkata Khulna Train service is expected to start regularly from July.
  • It is significant that during the Indo-Pak war in 1965, the rail service was suspended.
