  • On September 13th, 2017, Karnataka became the first state of India to implement Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy, 2017 with the approval of the policy by Cabinet.
  • This policy is prepared by the Department of Micro and Small Enterprises after consultation with the stakeholders including the vehicle manufacturing industries.
  • The aim of this policy is to promote research and development to increase in this sector and electric mobility.
  • The government will make amendments to building by-laws for providing mandatory charging infrastructure in all high-rise buildings.
  • The government will also create a special purpose vehicle to create more changing infrastructure in Bengaluru and Karnataka.
  • A Karnataka Electric Mobility Research and Innovation Centrewill also be setup to promote the research in the state.
