- On 4 February 2016, the ‘International Fleet Review’ (IFR) -2016 began at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
- It’s objective is to enhance mutual trust and confidence with neighboring navies by inviting their ships to participate in the event. Indian Navy is to display its maritime capabilities.
- This review is proposed to be done at a larger scale from 4 to 9 February 2016 in Visakhapatnam.
- Warships and Navy personnel from 50 countries participated in the IFR off Vizag coast.
- This is second ‘International Fleet Review’ the last International Fleet Review by Indian Navy was conducted in January 2001 at Mumbai, participated by 29 countries.
- The motto of the event was “United through Oceans”.
- From India over 90 warships and support vessels were participated in IFR.
- The foreign fleet included contingents from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, France, Indonesia, Iran, Maldives, UK and USA.
- The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee Addressed the International Fleet Review 2016 on 06 Feb 2016 at Visakhapatnam.
- International Fleet Review is an International Military Exercise hosted and conducted by Indian Navy on behalf of the President of India, Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces.
- On 6 February 2016, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the “International Fleet Review 2016”.
- Bollywood celebrities namely Akshay Kumar and Kangana Ranaut also participated in the opening ceremony of IFR.
