  • The ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht AVSM, ADC Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Eastern Naval Command at a formal ceremony held at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.
  • INS Tihayu is the second ship of the four follow-on Water Jet Fast Attack Craft (FO-WJFAC).
  • INS Tarmugli, the first Follow-on Water Jet Fast Attack Craft (WJFAC), built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) was commissioned in May, 2016.
  • INS Tihayu is built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE).
  • It is named after Tihayu Island (presently known as Katchal Island) in the Nicobar group.
  • The 320-tonne INS Tihayu, measuring 49 meters can achieve speeds in excess of 35 knots.
  • INS Tihayu would be deployed for coastal patrol and surveillance operations along the Eastern Coast.
