  • On November 6, 2017, Tata Steel established India’s largest CDQ plant (CDQ: Coke Dry Quenching) in Odisha.
  • The plant has been established at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur district of Odisha.
  • Nippon Steeland Sumkin Engineering (NSENGI) of Japan are the supplier and technology partner and plant is being operated by Essar Group.
  • The coal is heated at 1000oC temperature and left in the plant for cooling and is mixed with inert gas.
  • Electricity is made from this coal which is more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
  • CDQ is a heat recovery system to cool hot coke from coke ovens.
  • This plant has the capacity to perform 200 metric tons of coal in one hour.
