  • On December 1st, 2017 India has been re-elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization [IMO] under Category “B”.
  • The selection was made at the 30th session of the Assembly of the IMO held in London.
  • Germany got the highest vote (146) in the elections and with 144 votes India remained at second place.
  • In Categories “A” and “B” there are 10 members each and in Category “C” 20 members, who are elected by the IMO Assembly.
  • Category (B) 10 States with the largest interest in international seaborne trade are Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates.
  • Category C consist those 20 States who have not elected under (a) or (b) above, which have special interests in maritime transport or navigation.
  • It’s headquarter is in London.
