  • On 28 June 2016 Geneva based World Economic Forum has released its annual report named “Human Capital Report-2016”.
  • This year’s World Economic Forum’s Human Capital Report ranks 130 countries across the world.
  • The index takes a life-course approach to human capital, evaluating the levels of education, skills and employment available to people in five distinct age groups, starting from under 15 years to over 65 years.
  • The Index assesses Learning and Employment outcomes on a scale from 0 (worst) to 100 (best).
  • Finland has been ranked as first with overall score of 85.86.
  • The next four countries in the Index are 2. Norway (Score -84.64), 3. Switzerland (Score -84.61), 4. Japan (score -83.44), 5. Sweden (Score -83.29).
  • Mauritania with the least score of 42.33 is ranked 130th in the Human Capital Index-2016.
  • India with the score of 57.33 is ranked 105th in the Index.
  • It may be recalled that in the human capital index -2015 India was ranked 100th with a score of 57.62 in the list of 124 countries.
  • Among the neighbouring countries Bangladesh ranked 104th (Score -57.84), Nepal ranked 108th (score -57.35), Bhutan 91st place (score -61.83), Sri Lanka 50th place (score -71.69) and Pakistan 118th place (score 53.10) .
  • Among the BRICS countries India is ranked below Russian Federation (28th, score -77.86), Brazil (83th, score -64.51), China (71st, score -67.81).
  • Human Capital Index of developed countries is as follows :United States in 24th place (score 78.86), the UK’s 19th place (score -80.04), Australia ranks 18th (score -80.08), France 17th (score- 80.32) and Germany placed 11th (score -81.55).
