  • On August 29, 2017, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the occasion of National Sports Day, honored 22 sportspersons who have performed exemplarily well in different sports.
  • This year, 14 players were honored with Laxman Award and Rani Laxmibai Award and 8 other players for outstanding performance in different sports competitions.
  • These include 8 female players and 6 male players.
  • In female category, Manjula Pathak (Handball), Sushila Pawar (Weightlifting), Shreya Singh (Taekwondo), Shreya Kumar (soft tennis), Gargi Yadav (wrestling), Preeti Gupta (Kho-Kho), Ranjana (hockey, Veteran class) Anshu Dalal (Judo, Veteran class) were awarded with the Rani Laxmibai Award.
  • In male category, Rahul Chaudhary (Kabadi), Shaniish Mani Mishra (soft tennis), Siddharth Verma (gymnastics), Danish Mujtaba (hockey), Mohammad Asad (shooting) and Rajneesh Kumar Mishra (hockey, veteran class) were awarded the Laxman award.
  • Both Lakhman and Rani Lakshmibai awardees received a sum of Rs. 3 lakh 11 thousand rupees, a bronze statue and a citation.
  • ICC Women Cricket World Cup Team Member Deepali Sharma and Poonam Yadav received Rs. 8 lakh each, IAS Officer and Gold ans silver medal winner of Asian Para Badminton championship-2017, Suhas L.Y. got the award of Rs.10 lakh and the members of 12th South Asian Games 2016 Indu Gupta, Ms. Srishti Agarwal, Ms. Manjula Pathak and Mr. Sachin Kumar Bhardwaj were awarded with a sum of Rupees one lakh each.
  • Vishu Sharma, who was illuminating the name of the state in the Wushu game, was honored with a sum of Rs 3 lakhs.
  • In addition to this, the Chief Minister announced the name of the Sports College located in Saifai after Major Dhyanchand.
  • He said that on the lines of the Central Government, the Olympic medal winner of the state will be given Rs 6 crore, silver medal winner will be given Rs 4 crore and bronze medal winner will get Rs 2 crore.
  • State’s winners in the Asian and Commonwealth Games, will also be honored on the lines of the Central Government.
