  • On March 6th, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched ‘ IMPRINT India’, an Rs 1,000-crore project to kickstart original research in areas where the country is dependent on foreign technology.
  • IMPRINT India program was started in 2015.
  • This program is a joint initiative of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
  • It’s aim is to identify areas of relevance in those areas which need innovation and to ensure the support of higher financing for research in these areas and measure the impact of research at the people’s level of life.
  • 142 projects are being implemented under the IMPRINT First Program with a cost of 318.71 crore rupees.
  • These projects are related to important areas including security and energy, health care, climate change, etc.
  • Under theIMPRINT – II (II), a ‘Department of Funds Science and Technology’ and ‘Human Resource Development Ministry’ is being jointly organized.
