2. Cabinet approves Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s proposal for installation of 1980 MW coal based thermal power project at Ghatampur in Uttar Pradesh

Question: Recently the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for installation of Ghatampur Thermal Power Project (GTPC). It will be installed in which of the following districts of Uttar Pradesh?

  • On 20 July 2016 the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for installation of Ghatampur Thermal Power Project (GTPC) of 1980 MW (3 X 660 MW) capacity.
  • It installation will take place through a Joint Venture Company named “Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL)” formed jointly by Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL).
  • It will be installed in Ghatampur Tehsil of Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The project will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs.17, 237.8 crore including Interest during Construction component of Rs.3, 202.42 crore.
  • The commissioning of Unit I, II and III will be 52 months, 58 months and 64 months respectively from starting date.
  • The benefits of this generation will be available in the 12th Five Year Plan.
  • The energy generated by the Ghatampur Thermal Power station (GTPS) (about 14000 MU/annum) will mainly be supplied to Uttar Pradesh.
