  • On November 28th, 2017, the Government of Odisha launched a new scheme CALLED “Fish Pond Yojana”.
  • Under the scheme, the state government will make additional water bodies for freshwater aquaculture in 2,200 hectares of land.
  • Apart from this, the government has made a budgetary provision of Rs 96 crore for this scheme.
  • Under the scheme, a farmer with requisite land can get bank loan of Rs 8.5 lakh per hectare for excavation of new pond.
  • State Government can provide a maximum of 50% (4.25 lakh rupees per hectare) of total cost as subsidy.
  • If someone spends more than Rs 8.5 lakh per hectare, then the state government will not provide more than the maximum limit of subsidy.
