  • On October 11, 2017, the first meeting of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council to the PM was held in New Delhi.
  • In the council meeting chaired by Dr. Bibek Debroy, a member of the Policy Commission, the status of the present economic, fiscal and monetary policy was taken into consideration and the main areas which were identified by the Council would be the special emphasis.
  • The 10 regions identified by the Council include economic growth and employment generation, unofficial sector and unification of the informal sector, financial structure, monetary policy and public spending efficiency, public expenditure, economic sector institutions, agriculture and animal husbandry, consumption trend and production and social sector.
  • In the council meeting chaired by Dr. Bibek Debroy, a member of the Policy Commission, the status of the present economic, fiscal and monetary policy was taken into consideration and the main areas which were identified by the Council would be the special emphasis.
  • Arvind Subramanyam, Chief Economic Advisor of India also joined the meeting.
  • They put their views about the policy measures being taken to speed up economic growth including investment and exports.
  • On 26thSeptember 2017, the Council had been set up with the approval of the Prime Minister.
  • Council comprised of reputed economists and experts which include Dr. Bibek Debroy, Member, NITI Aayog as the Chairman, Shri. Ratan P. Watal, Principal Adviser, NITI Aayog as Member Secretary and Dr. Surjit Bhalla, Dr. Rathin Roy and Dr. Ashima Goyal as part time members.
