• On 20 May 2016 Union Government has constituted 11 members committee to recommend measures to enhance the combat capabilities of the armed forces.
• The committee will be headed by Lt Gen D B Shekatkar (retd).
• It will recommend measures to enhance the combat capabilities of the over 12-lakh strong armed forces.
• Committee will also take an initiative to “re-balance” the overall defence expenditure in view of the escalating salary and pension bills.
• Three months has been given to the committee to outline an action plan.
