- On 15 August 2016 Maharashtra government has launched a Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS).
- It was launched through 42 cyber labs simultaneously in every police station, with an aim to adopt a paperless working mechanism.
- Under the CCTNS, the state government will raise a special cyber police force of around 1,000 policemen well trained to handle the growing incidents of cyber crimes.
- With this system, claimed to be the first such initiative by a state, the police will now be able to register an FIR with a single click.
