  • On April 19, 2017; in the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet approved the leave encashment of accumulated leave up to 180 days in relation to Defense Services personnel.
  • This clearance has been given in connection with defense services personnel who have served less than 15 years and who had died during the period from December 30, 1991 to November 29, 1999 or were invalidated out from the service.
  • This decision will benefit families of 9777 officers and other employees of defense services.
  • It is notable that during this period, many youths were killed in the Kargil conflict (Operation Vijay) and encounters with extremists in Jammu and Kashmir and the North East.
