  • On January 9th, 2018; according to a press release published by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the project work of Barmer Refinery in Pachpadra, Rajasthan on January 16th, 2018.
  • The cost of this project will be Rs 43,129 crore.
  • The goal of engineering conclusion has been kept 4 years.
  • The capacity of this refinery will be 9 MMTPA.
  • The equity shares of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in the refinery will be 74 per cent and Rajasthan’s equity share will be 26 per cent.
  • An interest free loan of Rs.1123 crore per annum for 15 years and the target of repayment of loan for the next 15 years from 16th year is fixed.
  • The new refinery will produce updated BS-6 fuel.

  • Due to this, the financial burden on the state government has come down from Rs 56,040 crore to Rs 16,845 crore.
  • This has saved the state government nearly Rs 40,000 crore.
  • In lieu of land cost of 188.80 crores, the Government of India has been given equity in this project.
  • For undertaking project work all necessary permissions / approvals have been obtained from the Government of India for revised project and environmental permission from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
  • 32 acres land has been acquired for the refinery plant and 250 acres for marketing terminal in Pachpadra (Barmer).
  • It is worth mentioning that this will be the first BS-6 fuel refinery in the country.
