  • On 5th April 2019; 5,000 Konyak community women danced in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Records in the category of largest traditional Konyak dance display.
  • This program coincided with the Aoleang festival of the state. The theme of this year’s Aoleang, (also called Mini Hornbill festival), was Empowering Women for Cultural Heritage.
  • The event was organised by the Konyak Union in coordination with Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) and Konyak Students’ Union (KSU).
  • Aoleang is the main festival of the Konyaks from northern Nagaland. It is celebrated in the first week of April every year, this year district Mon of Nagaland has witnessed the celebration from 1st – 6th April.
  • This festival is observed after sowing seeds in the new fields. Aoleang celebrations also mark the end of the current year and welcome the beginning of the New Year with the spring season.
  • This festival also showcases the rich cultural heritage, with indigenous dances, songs and games combined with the modern music talents of the district. It aims to develop relationships between the government and the people, bridging the communication gap, promoting peace, culture and progress.
