  • On June 30, 2017, the Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) for redevelopment of 10 railway stations across the country on global standards.
  • Selected railway stations in the first phase for redevelopment include Tirupati, Sarai Rohilla (Delhi), Nellore, Puducherry, Madgaon, Lucknow, Gomti Nagar, Kota, Thane (New station) and Ernakulam.
  • A Special Purpose Vehicle will be formed at the national level as a Joint Venture between RLDA and NBCC on 50 : 50 share holding basis.
  • The SPV in turn will enter into City Support Agreements with respective cities. The redevelopment of stations and commercial development on Railway land will be done in alignment with the Smart City Plans of respective cities.
  • The upkeep and maintenance of the stations and the commercial property shall be done by the SPV. Non-fare revenues generated from the Railway station except that from Railway Display Network will be passed on to SPV to meet expenditure on redeveloped stations.
  • Project completion period will be three years from the date of availability of encumbrances free site or award of works to construction agency, whichever is later.
