  • From 25-28 November 2017, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, H.E. Mr. Nikos Kotzias, was on visit to India.
  • The visit of the Greek Foreign Minister is a part of the regular high-level exchanges between the two countries.
  • FM Kotzias had a meeting with External Affairs Minister, Smt Sushma Swaraj, in New Delhi on 27 November.
  • On November 27, 2017, an agreement was signed between India and Greece to start direct air services between the two countries.
  • The two Ministers held discussions on various aspects of bilateral ties as well as important regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
  • The discussions between the two Ministers focused on building closer cooperation in the areas of trade & investment, trade fairs, agriculture, maritime sector, culture and tourism.
  • During the visit, the two Ministers also signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Co-operation in the field of New and Renewable Energy.
  • Greece also gave full supportto India’s bid for a permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council
  • Under the Air Services Agreement, Indian Airlines will be allowed to operate the airline in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion.
  • Greek Airlines will also start flying services in major Indian cities.
  • It is noteworthy that On February 22, 2017, Union Cabinet has given its approval the signing of Air Services Agreement (ASA) between India and Greece.
