  • Surgeon vice admiral AA Pawar is an alumnus of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 03 Mar 1980.
  • The Flag Officer is a renowned Psychiatrist and was awarded the Gold Medal by Pune University for standing first in MD (Psychiatry) in the early part of his career.
  • In an illustrious career spanning 37 years the officer has several achievements in both professional and administrative fields.
  • He played a key role in setting up of Learning Disorder Centre, the first of its kind in the Armed Forces. He also conducted innovative seminars on Stress Management, Marital Harmony and Domestic Violence.
  • He has also commanded INHS Asvini and Sanjivani with great distinction. At Sanjivani , he introduced facility of ‘Sakhis’(lady attendants), and initiated a cashless scheme for treatment of naval personnel and their families at Amrita.
  • It was during his tenure that INHS Asvini was awarded Unit Citation and the Raksha Mantri Trophy for the 2nd Best Command hospital.
