• On 6 June 2016 Forbes an American business magazine has released the list of World’s 100 Most Powerful Women of 2016 .
• The 100 most powerful women on the list represent eight categories or power bases: billionaires, business, finance, media, politics, philanthropists and NGOs, and technology.
• The world’s most powerful woman in the list is German Chancellor Angela Merkel who ranked first for the sixth consecutive year.
• The top three most powerful in the list are politicians: Germany’s Angela Merkel, U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Federal Reserve Chai, Janet Yellen.
• Melinda Ann Gates, the co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has been ranked fourth in the list.
• Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors has been ranked fifth in the list and tops the list in the automotive section.
• Four Indians have been named in the Forbes list of World’s 100 Most Powerful Women of 2016.
• Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chair-Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI) stood at 25th position compared to last year’s 30th position.
• Chanda Kochhar, MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, was placed at 40th position compared to last year’s 35th position.
• Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Founder-chair of Biocon Limited, was placed at 77th position compared to last year’s 93rd position.
• Shobhana Bhartia, Chairperson and Editorial Director of the Hindustan Times Media, is placed at 93rd position.
• Apart from them, one women of Indian-origin, PepsiCo Chief Indra Nooyi is placed at 14th position.
• In the list Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counselor, Myanmar has been ranked 25th. Nepal’s first female president Vidya Devi Bhandari, Prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, are ranked 52nd and 36th respectively.
