- On 18th October, 2016 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated three flagship hydro-electric power projects to the Nation in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
- Details of the three power projects are as follows— Koldam hydro-electric project (HEP) (4×200 MW) of NTPC, Parbati Stage-III project (4×130 MW) of NHPC and Rampur Hydro Electric projects (6×68.67 MW) of SJVN.
- NTPC- Koldam has capacity of 800 MW and provides peaking capacity to the Northern grid.
- A total 13.62 percent of electricity generated from the plant is supplied free of cost to Himachal Pradesh.
- Parbati III plant is designed to generate 1963.29 Million Units annually.
- The power generated from the Parbati-III Power Station is distributed to beneficiary states i.e. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Union Territory of Chandigarh
- This Power Station is supplies 13% free power to home state i.e. 12% as home state share and 1% for Local Area Development fund.
- SJVN’s Rampur Project (412MW) in Kullu district will be operated in tandem with Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (HPS). This project will provide 13 percent free power to the state of Himachal Pradesh
- It is notable that Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has provided generating equipment for operation of these three projects.
- BHEL has a vast experience in hydro-electric projects and has contracted more than 500 hydro generating sets with a cumulative capacity of more than 29,000 MW of various ratings in India and abroad.
- BHEL’s hydro installations are in operation in India and across the world in Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Malaysia, Nepal, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Rwanda and Vietnam.
