  • On October 6th 2018, India’s Strategic Forces Command successfully test-fired it’s indigenously developed nuclear capable missile Prithvi-II during night time.
  • As part of a user trial by the Army it was launched from a test range in Chandipur near Balasore, Odisha. Prithvi-II is a surface-to-surface missile and has a strike range of 350 km.
  • It was launched from a mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near Balasore.




  • Earlier, it was successfully test-fired during night time on 21 February this year from the ITR at Chandipur.
  • The missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1,000 kilograms of warheads and is thrusted by liquid propulsion twin engines.
  • The state-of-the-art missile uses advanced inertial guidance system with manoeuvring trajectory to hit its target.




  • Prithivi II is a nine-metre-tall, single-stage liquid-fuelled first missile to have been developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.
