  • On April 7-10, 2017, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was on a state visit to India.
  • Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was formally welcomed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on April 8, 2017.
  • Later, she went to Rajghat and paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
  • During this visit, she met President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari.
  • On 8th April, 2017, there was a delegation-level bilateral dialogue between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
  • After the talks, 22 MoUs were signed in various important areas between the two countries.
  • Here are some key agreements:
    (i) Agreement on peaceful use of outer space
    (ii) Agreement on peaceful use of nuclear energy.
    (iii) Agreement for cooperation in the judicial sector.
    (iv) Agreement in cyber security sector.
    (v) Agreement for Research and Development in the field of Earth Science.
    (vii) Agreement for cooperation in the field of mass media.
    (viii) Compromise for audio-visual co-production.
    (Iii) Agreement for the development of the route of the ship in the Ashuganj-Zakiganj section of the Kushiara River and the Sirajganj-Khova section of Yamuna River on the India-Bangladesh Protocol route.
    (Ix) Agreement for the construction of 36 community clinics in Bangladesh.
  • In addition to these agreements, India has announced a loan of $ 4.5 billion to Bangladesh.
  • After the agreement, the Joint Statement was issued between the two countries.
  • In which both the countries stress the Zero Tolerance policy against terrorism.
  • Both leaders formally inaugurated the Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka bus service through video conferencing.
  • On this occasion, the two leaders released the Hindi translation of ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’ of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
  • During this visit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also attended a program organized for the martyrs of Bangladesh in the liberation war of 1971 at Manekshaw Center.
  • It is known that earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Bangladesh during the 6-7 June, 2015.
  • During this visit, decisions were taken on 22 bilateral documents, including the exchange of instrument confirmation of the Indo-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement (LBA).
