- On 28th February, 2017, The Reserve Bank of India set up an Inter-disciplinary Standing Committee on Cyber Security under the chairmanship of Meena Hemchandra (Executive Director, RBI).
- The Committee on Cyber Security will review the threats inherent in the existing/emerging technology; study adoption of various security standards/protocols; interface with stakeholders; and suggest appropriate policy interventions to strengthen cyber security and resilience.
- The formation of the standing committee comes in the light of the recommendations of the Expert Panel on Information Technology and Cyber Security headed by Meena Hemchandra that was formed by the central bank.
- The RBI has also instructed banks to mandate cyber security preparedness for addressing all cyber risks at their end as well.
