  • According to data released by National Institute of Saving which operates under ministry of finance, West Bengal is the top contributor to the various National Savings Schemes offered by the governments at state as well as central level.
  • West Bengal has highest collection of about Rs 90,000 crore from small savings schemes such as NSC and PPF among the states and union territories, which is about 15 per cent of the total corpus.
  • West Bengal is followed by Uttar Pradesh with a collection of Rs 69,661 crore which is 11.68% of the corpus.
  • Maharashtra was ranked third. The state of Maharashtra contributed 10.57%, which is Rs 63,026 crores.
