  • On 3-5 June 2016 the 15th Security Summit, also known as Shangri-La Dialogue was held in Singapore.
  • The IISS Shangri-La Dialogue (originally known as the ‘Asia Security Summit’) was initiated in 2002 in response to the evident need for a forum where Asia-Pacific defence ministers could engage in dialogue aimed at building confidence and fostering practical cooperation.
  • The summit held annually by an independent think tank, the London based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
  • The event was attended by at least 28 Defence Ministers from Asia-Pacific countries.
  • India is represented by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
  • It was led by Pentagon chief Ashton Carter.
  • The summit was started with the introductory speech of Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand.
