- On 15 October 2020; Coast Gaurd of Japan has started the test of its new maritime surveillance drone.
- This UAV has been named as SeaGuardian. It is being tested at Maritime Self Defence force’s base in Aomori Prefecture North Japan.
- Japan’s coast gaurd tested this drone in coastal area of Sea of Japan.
- This is noticeable that the surveillance drone SeaGuardian is being tested at the times when there is already tension regarding dispute of South China Sea between these countries.
- Under these tests the drone will be checked for its capabilities in carrying out operations like search and rescue, and maritime surveillance.
- The SeaGuardian is being built and developed by the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, a defence firm, based in United States of America.
- SeaGuardian is equipped with radars and high-definition cameras and can fly continuously for 24 hours.
- The UAV (SeaGuardian) has wingspan of 24 meters and length 12 meters. In a single flight this plane is capable of covering japans’ exclusive economic zone.
