- On 30 march 2016 Uttar Pradesh cabinet accepted the proposal to build the Greenfield Expressway (Purvanchal Expressway) .
- The Lucknow-Ballia Expressway will now be known as Samajwadi Purvanchal Expressway and would be constructed on Engineering, Procuderement and Construction (EPC) Model.
- It is 348-km-long six-lane Expressway.
- The estimated cost stands at about Rs 19,437 crore.
- The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has been named as the nodal agency of this project.
- The construction contracts will be divided into 8 packages.
- Under this project district-Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Sultanpur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ghazipur and Ballia will be covered.
