  • 13 and 14 May 2016.Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, made a working visit to India.
    It may be recalled that during 15-18 February 2015 Sri Lankan President was on a state visit to India.
  • During his visit he addressed valedictory session at the “Vaicharick Mahakumbh” which held as part of the Simhastha Mahakumbh in Ujjain on the 14th of May.
  • He also visited Sanchi where he toured the World famous Sanchi Stupa.
  • He also attended a function organised by the Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka during which he unveiled a statute of Angarika Dharmapala.
  • The relationship between India and Sri Lanka is more than 2,500 years old.
  • Both countries have a legacy of intellectual, cultural, religious and linguistic interaction.
  • In recent years, the relationship has been marked by close contacts at all levels.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Sri Lanka on 13-14 March, 2015.
