  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on State Visit to Bhutan on 17-18 August 2019.
  • During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and the Bhutanese leadership resolved to take the bilateral cooperation beyond hydroelectric power sector.
  • The two countries signs various MoU to diversity the friendship. The sectors include space, education, science, technology and legal education.
  • PM also addressed the students of Royal Bhutan University in Thimpu.
  • He also launched Rupay card in Bhutan by making a purchase at Simtokha Dzong, built in 1629 by Shabdrung Namgyal.
  • Singapore and UAE are others countries which allowed Rupay card in their country.
  • Currency swap limit has also been raised and added $100 million in the limit.

  • Ground Earth Station and SARCOM network, developed with assistance from the ISRO for utilization of South Asia Satellite in Bhutan.
