  • On 27th February, 2017, former Union Minister and a veteran parliamentarian P. Shiv Shankar passed away after prolonged illness. He was 89 years old.
  • He was born on August 10, 1929 in Mamidipally village in Hyderabad district. Mr. Shiv Shankar passed BA from Hindu College, Amritsar, and completed LLB from University Law College, Osmania University.
  • He won in the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency by-election in 1979 from the Indian National Congress party and retained the seat in 1980 too.
  • He became Law Minister in the Indira Gandhi Cabinet in 1980. From 1985 till 1993 he represented the Congress as Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat. In 1998, he again won in the Tenali Parliamentary constituency election from Congress Party.
  • In 2008 he joined the Praja Rajyam Party floated by actor Chiranjeevi which merged with the Congress in 2011.
  • Shri Shiv Shankar made valuable contribution to Indian politics in his various capacities including as Union Cabinet Minister, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission and as Governor of Sikkim as well as Kerala. He was associated with a large number of social and educational institutions.
  • The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee condoled the passing away of Shri P. Shiv Shankar.
